What is art?
Okay, I know I’m like several weeks late, but I want to put my kind of idea of art out there for you people to pick apart.
Okay first of all, I don’t think all things that claim to be art today deserve the title. For example, two years ago I was working for a graphic design studio and one of the random jobs I was given was to do was to type up this person’s 20 page papers on art. He was an elderly gent who worked down at the museum and he had to give some presentations on art. He didn’t use computers, he used a typewriter and slides. So it was my job to type both of his 20 page papers (one on Surrealism, the other on Dadaism) and to scan the slides he provided into the compuer and crop them. So I learned a bit about these two art movements and I would like to say… DADAISM ISN”T ART!!!!! I will admit that a few pieces from this movement could be considered art but I don’t think that just a regular telephone or whatever that they just bought at a garage sale and put on a stand and declared art is art. That’s just junk. HOWEVER, stuff like what that one man in New York (?) was doing with creating trashbag art that movies and all. That is most definately art. I kind of feel like most things that are altered or created by the person can be art, but things that are not altered at all and just declared — no. Emphatically no.
