(S&W)——I’m Not There—–
I do not know a whole lot about Bob Dylan “Zimmerman”, I have heard a few of his songs and his name is pretty big in the music world. I am really not sure what to think about the movie, I would like to watch it again so that I could try and put some more pieces together. I honestly was kinda lost for a good portion of the film, but every so often either a picture or song would come up that I recognized and gave me some light to the story.
Cate did an amazing job, it took me a little while just to notice “he” was indeed a “woman”. I would have to say that the little boy was my favorite portrayal and time of Dylans career. Not only did the actor do a good job, but that time period of music was my favorite of all his styles, it consisted of simple, harmonic chord progressions with a strong melody and message.
One message I was retriving from the film (and I could be wrong) was that the people wanted a “protest” message in the music, and Dylans early listeners where supporters of the peace movement. But when Dylan changed his tune a little bit, the listeners he had (protesters) were no longer happy with him because he was no longer preaching their message. I’m not quite sure how to explain what he was thinking, but I understood it. All I can say is that I am going to watch that again and try and get a better grasp on what he was thinking in respect to how he viewed the public and his music’s place in speaking to both them and himself.
