Big mouth boxer

The documentary on thursday night was really well done. The way it was filmed allowed us to get a good perspective on Muhammad Ali and how he handled himself both in his personal life and his career as a boxer. From the outside, Ali is a loud mouthed man, who has a very large ego, not hesitating for a moment when talking himself up. The first impression someone would get from him is that he is just very concerned with himself and his own success. The creators of this documentary, however, did a great job on getting the audience to see the other side of Ali and how he cares about his people in Africa. The clips of him telling a joke, revving himself up, or messing with some of his friends, allowed us to really like him as a person. You can see a life inside of him that is just excited and determined. Through out the documentary clips of other artists and famous people of that time and culture were placed in and flowed well with the rest of the film. These parts with music related to the rest of the documentary and added to the sense of excitement for the end of it when he fought Foreman. There was this one part in the movie that I did not understand. They kept on showing this women who was apart of the African culture and she sang with her breath. I think that they connected this to the rest of it somehow but I either didn’t catch it or I just simply don’t understand it. The way the Ali’s life was presented made us really like him. By the end of the documentary I, and I’m sure everyone else, was routing for him to beat George. A lot of that was due to the way they presented Ali’s story to us. I am convinced that if the creators of this documentary were to make another one about the same fight, but have us follow george Forman’s life, then everyone would be upset to find out he lost. The documentary did an excellent job at giving us a up close and emotionally attaching look at Muhammad Ali’s life. Going into it I thought I would be bored because that is how you would think a typical boring documentary would be. I really liked this one, however, and I’m interested to see more now and learn how to control the effect your audience’s perspective on something so well.
